Exit readiness
Exit readiness is the degree to which a company is prepared to be sold — its records, reporting, and story organized so a sale process can run quickly and command full value.
Exit readiness is preparation, not paperwork. A company that keeps a clean data room index, a defensible growth narrative, and orderly financials can enter a process on its own timing rather than scrambling. Sponsors often spend the back half of a hold period getting a portfolio company into this state.
The public-facing story matters too. A dated website or muddled brand can undercut the narrative a CIM is trying to tell, so exit-readiness work sometimes includes a refresh that aligns the company's digital presence with the value story. For private equity owners executing a value creation plan, presentation is part of what a buyer is paying for.
